WE FOSTER A LASTING IMPACT IN HAITIAN
COMMUNITIES.

For almost 20 years, we’ve been partnering with Haitian communities to support them in reaching their collective hopes and dreams.

We’re an innovative Haitian-led community engagement and development organization with a vision of Haïti where rural citizens are valued and are actors of their own change.

Our mission is to partner with rural communities in Haiti as they work to discover, create and realize their own vision of socioeconomic development for lasting transformation.

Our model places radical trust in partner communities to envision their own future.

We envision a Haïti where every person is recognized and valued as a contributing citizen in their community, and where all marginalized community members see themselves as powerful agents of change. Because of this, our unique and highly-effective method of community engagement empowers Haitians to take charge, make change happen and mobilize to transform their communities and their lives.

It takes a village. Together we can be catalysts and enlightened allies supporting rural Haitian communities as they make the change they want to see take place in their world.

Our beliefs

We believe in the immeasurable worth and dignity of every human being and their ability to contribute to their community.

We believe in partnering with communities and in supporting their inner capacity to lead their own development rather than attempting to do it for them.

Our partner communities can and must set their own priorities, timelines, and strategies for their community-led initiatives and development.

“We believe that no matter how much rural communities are struggling with poverty, they have ideas, resources, and knowledge to create their path to empowerment. At COFHED, our role is to come alongside them and be catalysts through trusted relationships while they gain self-confidence and a sense of their own agency.”

— Madeleine Avignon, COFHED Co-Founder and Executive Director
